After an August screening at the Venice Film Festival received a favorable response from both viewers and reviewers, boutique British art-film distributor Walter Reade-Sterling agreed to pick up distribution in the UK—but even at this point no American distributor was willing to touch Faces under any terms. Cassavetes showed them the Venice reviews, but they weren’t interested. Europe was Europe and the US was the US. Cassavetes was at the end of his rope. There were no more distributors to approach. In desperation, he gave the film to the New York Film Festival in hopes that an American festival screening and the accompanying press coverage would stir up interest. The film was, in fact, a critical sensation at the festival, but to Cassavetes’ dismay, nothing changed. American distributors were as little interested in “festival one-shots” that “impressed the New York Times crowd,” as they were in European festival successes.

Debo haber escuchado demasiado a María Dolores Pradera... "La dicha es flooor de un díaaaa..." (O algo así...) ;-) ¡Saludos y gracias!
