I need this Hindi last name written correctly in Hindi letters.
My problem is, that I've found many examples of this last name written as वर्मा, but the R has been missing in all of them. So I need to find out, whether correctly an R has to be added or perhaps the Latin transcription is incorrect, in which case I need the correct Latin transcription (Vama maybe?). So I need to get to the bottom of this.
All replies in English, please, except for Hindi script examples!

VARMA is written as वर्मा in Hindi.

Yes we do pronounce R in Hindi, and here it is place above म... as half R. As per English Spelling it shall be written as वरमा, but as per pronunciation is is used half and placed as व(र्)मा which is written as वर्मा

eg. For INDRA .. Hindi will be इंद्र and here the R of Indra is placed below द so it is written as इं द( ्र) which becomes इंद्र

You can place it on म and it won't be wrong. But that will not look nice. There are certain practices (with all scripts) that develop over a period of time. Probably it is also one of them.

| I think, I mixed it up with the horizontal half circle on top, which makes the vowel ê. But this one is different: it leaves the A to be A, but adds an R before the consonant. Got it! Thank you. |
| But one question, though. Since in वर्मा the MA is a long A, so it has that additional vertical line A, then why is that little hook not on top of the M, but on the extension A? I mean, isn't it supposed to be on top of the M directly? |
