Template/theme integration
In web design you often need to convert an image file or 2d design into a workable theme or template. Sometimes the template assets already exist. Whatever the case integrating this look-feel / template / theme requires the administrator to use the CMS (e.g. wordpress/joomla/drupal) in such a way that the theme functions seamlessly with the software - which requires integration.
Example sentence:
Theme Integration Guide: SportsPress will integrate seamlessly with most WordPress themes.

incorporating a model
You might glean more info from what it is they are studying?
Generally, although FR often uses 'modélisation' for 'modelling' (e.g. computer modelling), they still often tend to use 'maquette' for the 'model' that is produced, even though it may of course not be a physical 'model' at all! I've just been facing these same issues in the last document I was working on, which was all about using computer programs to model electrical installations.
Of course, it is also possible that 'maquette' here is being used in the sense of a 'mock-up' page layout etc. as used in DTP...

create a look and feel
Thinking generically here in the absence of a tightly-defined readership.

: Maybe, but we don't have enough context. We don't even know that this is an IT term.

: web design is web design, for whatever readership and level of expertise - and it doesn't take long to find out the exact meaning of what is "une maquette" [of a web site] or how "intégrer une maquette" is done.

incorporate (in you website) /encode a visual design

mock-up integration
Malgré le manque de contexte, je suppose que c'est de cela qu'il s'agit ?
Note from asker:
Thanks bohy. I think I shall go with "Integrate a mock-up". |
Thanks bohy. It seems that the technical term "theme" works better than "mock-up", but this was certainly the right idea. |
Discussion
Even if you are not training to be Formula One racing driver, you still need to learn the basics of driving, like what is a steering wheel and the basics of shifting gears, not some poetry / empty waffling about best colours for cars... that's not going to give you any idea about what is driving!
This task is clear: students are given the "visual design" i.e. how the web page is supposed to look like, and they have to use the right HTML code to obtain that look.
Some web-design applications might have a “template” tool to assist users in the creation of their web pages, in the same way as we can build templates in Word (which most users never learn to use properly…). Some web-building apps such as WordPress come with a set of pre-programmed “templates” (AKA “skins”), and many more are available on the web for free or for cash. But there is no “template” (or “skin”) as such on the web-server. Instead there is (usually) one and often several CSS (cascading style sheet) files that contain instructions on how to display individual parts of the displayed page, each of which is tagged appropriately.
I don't think you should decline to provide context, even if you're sure it won't help.
For example, "maquette" might be a reference to "templates" (as suggested by Tony, although he talks about DTP, not web design) - but that'd be less likely if there's already a clear reference to CSS (style sheets) in the list.
