Técnicamente, en ciencia de materiales, son conceptos distintos y se manejan por separado en inglés y en español. "Proof" da la idea de resistencia total, por ese motivo existe la categoría de equipos eléctricos explosion-proof (no pueden generar una explosión en atmósfera explosiva, por su grado de hermeticidad) y no existe explosion-resistant.
