Ned is a white man on the autism spectrum who works in an organization that employs mostly white, neurotypical men.
His identity as a white man gives him some advantages, as his boss and peers see him as “one of them.”
But Ned’s identity as someone on the spectrum *puts him at risk of being excluded*.
In particular, several of his peers shy away from inviting him to social gatherings outside work, because they’re uncomfortable with his speaking style and mannerisms.
As a result, Ned misses out on opportunities to build his professional network and demonstrate to his peers the important skills he brings to his job.
