English term

Publicity and advertising

English to Portuguese Marketing Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Good morning,

I am currently translating a manual about organising an automotive event where they often refer to publicity and advertising, as in "publicity and advertising on the race track".

In English they have different meanings for each term, and after spending a long time researching I couldn't understand if we also use different terms in portuguese or if everything is "publicidade".

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Mario Freitas

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Ana Vozone Sep 24, 2021:
Mais uma achega Advertising is a paid promotion done by a company to boost the sales of their products and services. Publicity is an unpaid promotion which most of the times done by third party and it involves circulation of NEWS or information.

There has always been confusion between the usage of words advertising and publicity. But there are significant differences between both of these terms. The advertising is paid promotion of the services and products of your business whose purpose is to boost the sales.

On the other hand, publicity is an unpaid promotional activity which is done by a third party to create a public interest story of your business. However, both techniques are used by companies as promotional tools to enhance their businesses. The purpose of each of the technique is different.

Na resposta abaixo: Incluí a tradução "campanha". quem sabe "campanha publicitária automóvel" se adapte e, pelo que conheço, faz parte da terminologia neste setor:

Fica a sugestão.

Nunca tinha pensado nisso Embora, se utilize o termo, por exemplo, em "propaganda médica".

@Rafaela Diria apenas publicidade. Propaganda em PT(pt) tende a ter um sentido político que eu evitaria...

publicidade e propaganda

The terms advertising and publicity are used interchangeably by many of us. But there is a considerable difference between the two. The critical difference between the two is that; former is a paid promotion of products done with the aim of increasing sales volume. However, the latter is an unpaid promotion through a third party aimed at creating a buzz or revealing a public interest story.

Ou ainda "campanha" ou "evento promocional" ("advertising"), mas tudo depende do contexto e da preferência de termos do cliente.
