Hypocrisy

English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Looking for a phrase that describes a hypocrite family
I'm searching for a phrase or idiom that describes a hypocrite family.
Context. One said to a person, in another language(not English), oh son of hypocrites. We use this expression when we want to insult someone who behaves in a dishonest way (a hypocrite person), and it's, especially, because his family is filled with hypocrite people as well.
Do you use another phrase that's normally used in your country, which is similar to (oh son of hypocrites)?
Thank you in adavance for your help :).
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

AllegroTrans Nov 22, 2021:
I agree with Phil Paul R's answer MAY be good, but it's not clear precisely what "oh son of hypocrites" (presumably in Arabic) means, nor do we know the context or who is saying it and to whom
philgoddard Nov 22, 2021:
This question is in the wrong place. It's impossible for us to answer without a knowledge of Arabic (presumably the "other language" you refer to), and there is no context to speak of. You should post it under Arabic to English.
Mark Robertson Nov 22, 2021:
@Yassine OK. How about: "Stay away from me, you're just as bad as your father!"
Yassine El Bouknify (asker) Nov 22, 2021:
It's a good suggestion, Mark Thank you.
Yvonne Gallagher Nov 22, 2021:
@ Asker but that wasn't the question you asked??

"in another language(not English), oh son of hypocrites" Do you use another phrase that's normally used in your country, which is similar to (oh son of hypocrites)?

which is definitely NOT English
Mark Robertson Nov 22, 2021:

Yassine El Bouknify (asker) Nov 22, 2021:
Your last sentence is true, Mark But it's a different story. I'm translating a document that includes screenshots of a WhatsApp chat. She said to him: "Stay away from me. Like father, like son." Do you think it's should be paraphrased? I don't know if it does sound correct for native English speakers.
Mark Robertson Nov 22, 2021:
@Yassine I do not know whether this is relevant to the context but "Oh son of hypocrites" has a koranic ring about it. Does hypocrisy (munafiqun) not have a specific meaning in Islam? "a group decried in the Quran as outward Muslims who were inwardly concealing disbelief and actively sought to undermine the Muslim community."

like father, like son OR the apple doesn't fall far from the tree

I don't think there is a specific phrase for familial hypocrisy, but those two are about characteristics running in families.
Peer comment(s):

agree JapanLegal : Yes, I would use the word "hypocrite" or a synonym, and then use one of the phrases you mentioned to emphasize that this negative trait seems to run in the family.

hypocrisy runs in the family

OR hypocrisy runs in that family

"runs in..." everyone in a hypocrite in the family

Paul's "like father like son " is fine as long as the topic of hypocrisy is already mentioned.

BTW "hypocritical" is the adjective
