Funnily enough There's a pueblo near me called Picanya, and I wonder if that could be the origin of the name....

top rump/rump cap/thick flank

The original name is ¨picanha¨ (Pt). However, they are using the Sp version even in Argentina.

¨Picanha is a cut of beef first made popular in Brazil, and later adopted in Portugal.

In the United States, the cut is little known and often named top sirloin cap, rump cover, rump cap, or culotte (french).¨

A popular South American cut widely known in UK as rump cap. Ideal for roasting joints and it can also be cut into steaks.

A delicacy, but relatively new to these shores, our picanha joint is inspired by the traditions of Brazilian and Argentinian butchery where the rump cap is the most prized part of the beast.

picaña/picanha

It's called picanha in Brazil. Rump cover in English.
Picanha is a cut of beef first made popular in Brazil, and later adopted in Portugal.
In the United States, the cut is little known and often named top sirloin cap, rump cover, rump cap, or culotte (french). Instead, North American butchers generally divide this cut into other cuts like the rump, the round, and the loin.[1]
