Hi,
I can't find a definition for these, other than "mastoid air cells", is this accurate at all? The patient had a CT head scan and I need to explain the report. This term is listed along with "NNH" (paranasal sinuses), if this helps.
Any help/pointers/correction greatly appreciated, as always.
Best wishes,
Alison.

mastoid air cells or mastoid cells
The mastoid air cells are thought to protect the delicate structures of the ear, regulate ear pressure and possibly protect the temporal bone during trauma. When the mastoid cells become infected or inflamed, often as a result of an unresolved middle ear infection (otitis media), mastoiditis can develop.
