Dutch term

B.H.R. / BHR

Dutch to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
Tussen de gegevens van een bedrijf (contact- en bankgegevens) komt de afkorting B.H.R. voor, gevolgd door een nummer van 6 cijfers. Waarvoor staat BHR en wat is de Engelse term?
Bedankt!

Discussion

Ilke Fabritius (asker) Apr 10, 2006:
I think MoiraB's answer (brussels handelsregister) makes most sense in my context...
Andre de Vries Apr 10, 2006:
What use would a BIC be without any further information? Again - we need more context. Like are there other BICs in the vicinity?
Linda Ferwerda Apr 10, 2006:
That makes no difference for the BIC, which is international. The Belgian company may have a bank account in Bahrein.
Ilke Fabritius (asker) Apr 10, 2006:
it's a Belgian company
Andre de Vries Apr 10, 2006:
could you give some more context - is there any reason to suppose that this company is involved with Bahrain?

X Trade Register

X would be the name of the city where the company is registered (starting with B). HR = Handelsregister, which also translates as Commercial Register.

If it's a Belgian company, this may be a possibility. They may have made a slight error, making it BHR instead of HRB. This site uses the latter to refer to the Brussel Handelsregister (or Handelsregister van Brussel) (followed by six digits):
http://www.sopragroup.be/templates/page_print.php?content_id...

BELGIE
Rechtsvorm: naamloze vennootschap, Sopra Benelux N.V.
Maatschappelijke zetel: Louizalaan 326 b.29, BE-1050 Brussel
Handelsregister: HRB 359.665

B could also stand for Brugge (Bruges) of course.
Peer comment(s):

agree Andre de Vries : or Belgisch Handelsregister - this makes more sense than Bahrain

Thanks! Ah yes, of course, that's a likely option, in which case it would be Belgian Trade (or: Commercial) Register. This number does seem to have six digits.
agree writeaway : as usual, it's not mentioned right away that the text is Belgian so everyone takes off for parts unknown. Each country has its particularities and if one isn't aware of them, then the fun really starts...../can't be Belgian-there is no such thing

thanks!
neutral Stefan de Boeck (X) : this mistake would not be made, ever. HRB/RCB (handelsregister/registre commercial) Brussel.

possibly, but it's a realistic possibility that the B stands for Belgisch, as pointed out above

BHR

Moeilijk te zeggen zonder verdere context, maar kan het niet samen met de 6 cijfers de BIC-code van de bank zijn (identieficatiecode bank). In dat geval vertaal je het uiteraard niet.

identificatiecode zonder e uiteraard....typo:-)
Peer comment(s):

agree Dave Calderhead : and with Henk - BHR is Bahrein

agree Alexander Schleber (X) : This is most logical in the context.

agree MoiraB : with Dave

agree Jacqueline van der Spek

neutral Stefan de Boeck (X) : BIC is sth like GEBABEBB (Fortis België). IBAN (int bank account nr) sth like BE + 14digit number.
