cycle race route description
Lively text describing the Tour of Flanders road cycle race (intended for sponsors).
I've seen vD's suggestions for schots en scheef (higgledy-piggledy, topsy-turvy, etc.) but can't quite picture what idea's being conveyed here.

Comment: "Thanks for clarifying what was going on here. With a bit of poetic licence (client encourages it!), I opted for "(...challenging uphill sections,) with the added bonus of uneven or eroded verges", bonus meant ironically, of course :-). I was subsequently sent the French version, which had rather colourfully rendered this as "avec leurs bas-côtés à la va-comme-je-te-pousse"."

Think about badly tended roads, plants growing in between the stones, roads not tarmacked, but merely with gravel and that done long ago. And that on a slope of 20%. Great stuff for cyclists.

1 day 5 hrs
often also with a very uneven road surface
wild guess
3 days 10 hrs
"challenging randomly angled slopes"
Just a suggestion - it appears to be open to a lot of different interpretations.
