English term
tundish
English to Dutch
Tech/Engineering
Engineering: Industrial
appears in a list of metallurgical vessels, right next to things as blast furnaces, converter vessels, ladles, etc..
I can't seem to find back what this is, though.
Does anyone know what we're dealing with?
Many thanks in advance!

gietbak
According to the references below this is what a tundish is. I think that gietbak might be the Dutch equivalent
2 A container for pouring molten metal into a mold, having holes in the bottom to prevent splashing
For the visit to the Hot Strip Mill we
were of course handed out over-
coats and safety helmets. In the Hot
Strip Mill the, meanwhile alloyed,
steel is poured into a tundish semi-
continuously. That means that the
tundish is always fi lled far enough to
replace an empty ladle by rotating
the ladle mill by half a turn. From the
tundish the liquid steel fl ows into the
mould, where the outer surface is
solidifi ed and a continuous plaque
comes down vertically. The plaque
is then bended until it is horizontal.

Tundish
A shallow, refractory-lined basin that is placed under a ladle and above a continuous caster. A tundish acts as a buffer by receiving the liquid steel from the ladle prior to entering the cast, allowing the operator to regulate the flow of metal into the mould.
