well, this "a" is just an unnecessary reiteration of "alpha": "2a" means "2alpha"
"selective" points out that this antagonist works selectively on the alpha 2 adrenergic receptor rather than on both the alpha 1 and the alpha 2 adrenergic receptor

: maar adrenergereceptoragonist hoort aan elkaar (de receptor is adrenerg, niet de agonist). Zie ook Pinkhof Medische Spellingcontrole versie 4. // Let op! er staat agonist en niet antagonist: toch wel een wezenlijk verschil.

Dank je wel, Marjolein. Dat er "agonist" stond was ook mij opgevallen maar ik dacht dat "agonist" alleen in verband met spieren werd gebruikt: dat blijkt niet zo te zijn. Wil jij een antwoord maken met "agonist"? Anders meld ik het de vraagsteller in D.E.
