English term

English to French Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy
Hello colleagues,
In an American English marketing text advertising the merits of a language school abroad, the following sentence can be found:

"Our friendly school is close to shops and services, while our student information service is there to help you with any queries [...]. We can also assist you with home stay placements, ***references***, banking support and under-age tuition."

Sorry, no other context.
Any explanation about what sort of references these might be would be extremely helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Discussion

claude-andrew Apr 20, 2011:
I agree with "lettres de recommandation" and would suggest that these may be for opening a bank account or obtaining accommodation, without envisaging any specific area.
cchat Apr 20, 2011:
As you have no other context, I think you can only translate it in a similarly vague way. It could be for all of the above.
Sandra Mouton (asker) Apr 20, 2011:
@ cchat Thank you for your answer but lettres de recommandation for what? A job to finance the tuition fees? To rent a place to live? Or to register with a university?
I hoped somebody had an idea about what sort of references an American language school would deem important to offer (we aren't talking about academic certification here).

Recommandations (conseils)
