locus

GBK English to German Science Mathematics & Statistics
Definition from Wikipedia:
In mathematics, a locus (Latin for "place", plural loci) is a collection of points which share a property. The term locus is usually used of a condition which defines a continuous figure or figures, that is, a curve. For example, in two-dimensional space a line is the locus of points equidistant from two fixed points or from two parallel lines.
Example sentences:
We let a control point vary while the rest is held fixed. We show that the locus of the moving control point that yields a zero curvature point on the curve is a developable surface, the regression curve of which is the locus that guarantees a cusp on the curve (ACM, Inc.)
So far, we have thought of an elliptic curve as defined by its equation. However, a specific equation is not unique for determining a locus of points. Simple substitutions such as x' = 2x obviously lead to different equations with the same locus of points that satisfy the equation. Substitutions like this amount to a change of coordinate system. (Charles Daney)
This curve is called the locus of the equation. The locus of an equation is a curve containing those points, and only those points, whose coordinates satisfy the equation. (tpub.com)

geometrischer Ort

Der Begriff „geometrischer Ort“ (Plural: „geometrische Örter“) bezeichnet die Menge aller Punkte mit einer bestimmten geometrischen Eigenschaft. So ist beispielsweise im zweidimensionalen Raum der geometrische Ort aller Punkte, die jeweils zu zwei gegebenen Punkten A und B denselben Abstand haben, die Mittelsenkrechte der Strecke AB.
Example sentences:
Der geometrische Ort aller Punkte P, für die die Summe der Entfernungen von zwei festen Punkten, den Brennpunkten F1 und F2, konstant ist, ist eine Ellipse. (Vortrag TU Dresden)
In der Planimetrie sind die geometrischen Örter Linien, daher werden sie auch geometrische Ortslinien genannt. In der Stereometrie sind die geometrischen Örter Flächen. (Vieweg Handbuch Elektrotechnik)
