Achilles Nus

The Achilles Tendon is the tendon which connects the heel with the calf of the leg, and is the principal extensor of the foot.

This tendon joins the calf muscles to the bone in the heel.

This is a highly technical, complicated and uncommon term and it'd be better to transliterate the first half of the same. Of course, we can translate tendon as nus.

You can guess the complicacy and technicality of this term from its derivates:

Achilles heel = Bhedyaang, Marmaang

Achilles jerk = Gulf-pratikshep

I think that the common readers might need to consult glossaries to arrive at the intended meaning here. So, it would perhaps be better to transliterate Archilles here.

Hope it helps to some extent.

Pindikaa-Kandraa - this is one of the exact substitutes for this typical medical term, but I am afraid it is not much common whereas you are looking for an average word. It is not always possible to find average words for highly technical expressions.

Pindikaa-Kandraa = पिंडिका-कंडरा

neutral nlingua : I know that you asked for a term an "average person" could figure out -- but I still want to mention this: as I recall the technical term (in Ayurveda) for tendon or ligament is "Snayu"

Two of my lexicons (one of which includes authenticated medical glossary) mention this term i.e. tendon as :1. Kandra 2. Nus. Since the asker wants an average or common word, I felt it worthwhile to suggest Nus as it is easily understood
