Section 6 of the AWS code modified to use a straight beam technique from the "Face C" to detect lack of fusion, lamellar tearing and underbead cracking.

All continuous changes in sound path indications discovered during straight beam examination of tee flange and corner welds that are equal to the response from the reference calibration and lying within the weld (cracks) or in the "Face C" base metal within 12 mm (1/2 in.) of the welded surface (lamellar tearing) shall be unacceptable.
