Se usa en plantas que queman combustible para desulfurizar los gases de combustión mediante lechada de cal.
La técnica es muy moderna y se construyó el primer aquipo en el año 2009.
En vez de usar un solo "scrubber" se usan dos ubicados uno sobre el otro en forma escalonada.

"The basic idea of FGDplus (Figure 2) - an advanced version of the well established technology of wet flue gas desulphurisation employing limestone slurry - is to improve scrubbing performance by adding an additional module upstream of the usual FGD spray tower. In this FGDplus module reactions between the limestone and the S[O.sub.2] in the flue gas are better optimised than in conventional spray tower scrubbing systems by employing a staggered combination of different phase regimes, resulting in higher scrubbing efficiency. The combination of phases can be described as a "froth regime", somewhere between bubbling and spraying. The underlying mechanism is called "tracked mass transfer", employing the combination of the different phase regimes to achieve optimal mass transfer and reaction times."

Discussion
La empresa que desarrolló el proceso FGDplus, define lo que es "tracked mass transfer” y por más que busqué no hay mención de monitoreo en la definición ni en la explicación del método. Obviamente, como en todo proceso industrial, hay y siempre habrá monitoreo.
