Testing the Diodes
To test a diode, an Avometer or similar is necessary, switched to the resistance range.
Remove the diode lead from its terminal and apply the meter prods, one to the diode lead end and the other to the heat sink on which the diode is mounted. A healthy diode will show a low resistance in one direction and a high resistance in the opposite direction, as follows:
R diodes (red leads) low resistance from lead to base
N diodes (black leads) low resistance from base to lead
If any diode has either a low resistance in each direction or a high resistance in each direction, it is faulty and should be replaced, but before finally condemning it, remove it completely and test it again.
