to let someone have it
To start yelling / shouting on a most serious matter with proof(-s) at hand (usually).
'(To) yell / shout aggressively' is "nearly" a tautology, methinks. :) Of course, you may use this expression in some completely different contexts, such as in translating orders given in... battle situation(-s) or in... (sportive) fighting(-s). Here, let's say that a boxer receives an encouragement from his/her coach: 'Let him/her have it, X!' This means: 'Punch him/her hard!' or... 'Finish him/her off!' As I said, it depends on the context. Anyways, notwithstanding the level, the context is always a violent one if it starts with 'Let him/her have it!'
