More information. Peltolan Kuljetus Oy and Toikan Kuljetus Ky. Are they named after owner's names? Kuljetus is the surname? Thanks.

Ltd and partnership (commandite) company

Kuljetus is transport, not surname. OY is the Finnish equivalent of a Limited (Ltd) company... limited by shares. KY is a commandite company, or a limited partnership... it is, in effect a "hybrid partnership and corporation. At least one partner must have unlimited liability, while the liability of the limited partners is limited to the amount of capital subscribed."

Now, Peltola and Toikka can be surnames, but also place names. In effect, it's Peltola Transport Ltd and maybe Transport-Toikka & Co.

....just throwing this out there, if you like it you can keep it, if you don't you can throw it right back.

agree JonathanBrown : Yes, this is pretty much correct. I would say that if these companies were founded in English-speaking countries they could be "Peltola Transportation Ltd" and maybe "Toikka & Co. Transportation".

agree Spencer Allman : Yes, but I don't think they ought to be translated. Finland is a major economy and the symbols should be recognised internationally, like their German, French and Italian ones are

Thanks Spencer - good point. I've seen both used, but I'd like to see more Finnish companies stick to their Finnish Oyj rather than doing the British plc that some companies are growing fond of.

Inc and LP/LLP

Inc. = Incorporated (Br.E. Ltd, Limited)
LP = Limited Partnership
LLP=Limited Liability Partnership
Please be aware that in Finnish they also have another abbreviation, Oyj, which refers to a corporation that is publicly traded.
