French term

Muguet de Chine

French to English Other Botany Perfume website
Hello all,
This comes from a perfume website. I realise that muguet = lily of the valley, but I'm not sure whether muguet de Chine is the same thing. Many thanks in advance for any help!

Discussion

Evans (X) Jun 30, 2011:
Yes, Fiona, if it is definitely reineckea that is referred to here then pink lily of the valley would not be it, as that is Convallaria majalis (var. Rosea).
FionaT Jun 30, 2011:
See the note added to my answer. Pink reineckea seems to be what it's called in this context.
FionaT Jun 30, 2011:
I don't think pink lily of the valley is the same flower though. If you search for a picture of it and compare with the site mentioned in my answer, the flowers look different.
Evans (X) Jun 30, 2011:
I have come across "pink lily of the valley" in perfume ingredients. It may well be this that is being referred to here. See for instance: http://www.zimbio.com/All About Perfume.../articles/yjvUpcbR...

Thanks for the input!

Reineckea carnea

According to this website, it is a Reineckea carnea: http://jardinsbotaniquesjaponais.blogspot.com/2008/10/le-mug...
It doesn't not appear to have a common English name: http://flowers3.la.coocan.jp/Ruscaceae/Reineckea carnea.htm
It is a bit of a clumsy name for a perfume description though....

"Pink Reineckea "seems to come up quite a lot as a herb extract used in Chinese herbal oils etc.

neutral Tony M : Not 'China Lily', that would appear to be the proprietary name of the perfume rather than the flower.
