De plus, les parents doivent être avisés par les écoles de ces règlements quand ils choisissent les programmes pour leurs enfants.

Is this nothing more than a doll? Why not poupée, catin, etc.? or am I off the mark here... many thanks

Any idea what age the pupils are, and what type of school it is?
Presumably it's in Canada.

infant simulator

Hi, yes if this is the talking about the kind of babies used in classes to teach kids about parenting then they tend to be referred to as infant simulators. Some links:

"Realityworks’ computerized infant simulators give teens the most realistic infant care experience possible and a comprehensive parenting curriculum enhances the lesson with its supporting facts and activities"

"This study examined high school freshmen’s perceptions of teen pregnancy with infant simulators. The research questions for this study included:
What happens when the participants take home the infant simulator? Does the infant simulator change their lifestyles while they are taking care of it, and in what ways?"

agree Mike Sadler (X) : When I was in education we called them by the trade name, "Real Baby" (in the UK) so to avoid that I go with Sarita's suggestion.

Mechanical baby

I'm pretty sure it's a literal translation here. They use mechanical babies in health class to teach kids what it's like to be parents.
The dolls run on batteries and they cry like real babies until you hold them and take care of them properly, etc.

agree Ingeborg Gowans (X) : yes, that is highly probable
