French term

tronçonnement

French to English Tech/Engineering Petroleum Eng/Sci gas turbines
I am translating engineering specifications for gas turbines, and I have come across the term "tronçonnement," which isn't in any of my dictionaries. The context of the word is:
"Deux (2) travées tronçonnement barres 225 kV."

I have also come across a similar term, "barres tronçonnables."

Does this term mean "moulded" or "die-cut"? That's my guess, but perhaps I am completely off.

Thank you very much for any help that anyone can provide.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com (asker) Nov 28, 2005:
I tried to award all the answerers points, because they were all very useful. However, this only allowed me to give the first answer points, which is too bad.

I think the term is somewhat obsolete, because I have been translating these for more than 3 years, and haven't previously encountered it. There are other, more accurated terms for 'segmented busbars." :-D

I'm no expert in this field, so this is just a suggestion. My dictionary says "cutting into lengths", but there may well be a specific term.

This is not really about the gas turbine, rather about transmission of the electricity produced by the generator that the turbine drives. Busbars can be divided into sections.
Not many 'good' Googles, so maybe another term is used more often in the industry.
