Hi! This is part of an article for an architecture magazine. I cannot fully understand the use of 'tramite' in the following phrase:

"Certamente, il ruolo di Goeritz quale tramite tra il contesto messicano e quello europeo ed internazionale risulta evidente fin dal suo arrivo nel Paese..."
