I am translating a report that concerns procedures that laboratory employees in a large chemical lab must follow, the special clothing they must wear and precautions they must take to avoid contamination.
They refer to a "zona filtro" and I am not exactly sure what we call this space in English.
ZONA FILTRO
Per accedere allo spogliatoio "zona grigia", nel locale filtro tra "zona Farma" e "zona grigia":
• sedersi sulla panca di separazione con la schiena rivolta verso lo spogliatoio "zona grigia"
• calzare la prima soprascarpa
• scavalcare la panca con la gamba
• appoggiare il piede oltre la panca
• calzare la seconda soprascarpa, (ecc., ecc.)
Any ideas what the proper term is in English?

A me sembra che la zona filtro sia esattamente la zona rappresentata dalla panca, nel tuo caso. Non si tratterebbe, quindi, di un locale a parte.
Si parla infatti di "panca di separazione", non di un un locale.
Take a look at page 383 "dividing step-over sill".
I'm still not 100% sure though, and the other colleague might be right.
However, the locker room in your text IS the "grey area", while in the reference posted by :-) the locker room seem to correspond to the "zona filtro", which is found between the grey area and the pharma area in your text.
In your text you have:
zona grigia (spogliatoio) ->zona filtro -> zona farma
According to the above, the locker room does not correspond to the "zona filtro"
