Italian term

preposto al datore di lavoro

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Management
"Nel caso specifico, il responsabile della piattaforma (preposto al datore di lavoro), quando sussistano indizi o prove sufficienti di una possibilie assunzione di sostanze, potrà inviare richiesta specifica al medico competente che valuterà se sotoporre il lavoratore ad accertamento".

I honestly don't know where they drag these expressions out from. This gets ONE Ghit.

rock ... on sis.

Bravo!
Paul O'Brien (asker) Jul 20, 2009:
social dimension what irks me is the lack of a social understanding of language. since, in documents of this nature, one isn't out to break new linguistic frontiers but merely to provide information on H&S regulations, i don't see that there is any need for these diversions. i sent the document in with the term not translated and with a note explaining why (finds no "riscontro", leaving it out doesn't alter the overall meaning etc.).
julie-h Jul 20, 2009:
preposto doesn't it mean "in charge of", the opposite of Juliet's suggestion. I can't make much sense of it though and have no idea how to translate it- "in charge of the employer" sounds completely wrong.
Paul O'Brien (asker) Jul 20, 2009:
datore yeah, jule, but you may be aware that "datore di lavoro" doesn't always mean "employer" in italian. it can also mean something like the general manager on a worksite. even so, that doesn't resolve the problem.
Juliet Halewood (X) Jul 20, 2009:
Yes, proposto al datore di lavoro doesn't seem right. Are you sure it's not a typo? Having said that "preposto dal datore di lavoro" only gets a few ghits.
Paul O'Brien (asker) Jul 20, 2009:
"preposti" well, you can see "preposti" al datore di lavoro, but, again, there are very few references and even then they are in inverted commas.
