Italian term

rivestimento

Italian to English Medical Medical: Dentistry Dental implants
I'm translating the specifications for a type of silicone used in dental implants and I'm having trouble translating the word "rivestimento" which appears repeatedly "Ideale per la duplicazione di monconi nella tecnica di ceramica integrale e modelli con sottosquadri accentuati e **rivestimenti** poco compatti", "Compatibilità estesa a tutti i gessi [...] **rivestimenti** fosfatici ed a alcool". In a reference text supplied by the agency, I've found "monconi in rivestimento" translated as "refractory stumps", but I have doubts as to whether refractory would be the right word to use in my contexts. Apart from a generic "coating", can anyone help?

Hi Sarah - try doing a search for dental coatings or dental surface coatings. I am far from an expert, but I would say "refractory" refers to a specific kind of coating.

Note from asker:
I quite agree Marie. In a dental past translation, I simply used coating, but this reference to "refractory" has rather thrown me, particularly the phrase in Italian "monconi in rivestimento", because it almost seems like a contradiction. Thanks for the reference, Sarah.
Ooops, past dental translation M.).
Certainly there it does refer to "moncone in refrattario" then "moncone in rivestimento" suggesting it is a synonym. Hard to fit into my context though... I'll go on working on it! Thanks for all the help.
