Italian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Interview With Director Sergio Leone

Is it actually the "orchestra director?" Or should I just use the literal "orchestrator?"

It seems to me that "orchestrator" is used more often in English to generally designate anyone who gets the ball rolling on something that they want to get started.
