Portuguese term or phrase: 3° eixo de apoio direcional
"veículos não-articulados de transporte coletivo urbano de passageiros que possuam 3º eixo de apoio direcional"

The term also appears without "de apoio" later in the document: "dois eixos direcionais."

Turn-assist(ed) 3rd axle? Directional axle?

This is basically a third axle on a large bus or truck that is steerable to assist the vehicle in making tight turns. I can't seem to nail the English equivalent down.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Douglas! After a later confirmation form an auto industry professional, I selected your response, adding "rear" to avoid any confusion with the front axle (as it pertained to this project). Parabens!

trailing axle

Explanation:
Non articulated coaches over a certain length must be equipped with an actively steered rear axle known as a trailing axle. This greatly improves agility and considerably reduces the turning cicle. The third axle is also steered when reversing, making it far easier to manoeuvre while reducing tyre wear in the process.
