Portuguese term

Doação

Portuguese to English Law/Patents Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs
'Atesta para os devidos efeitos e fins DOAÇÃO'

This is a certificate from the Junta de Freguesia / Parish Council in Portugal and I'm unsure of the term 'Doação' in this context.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Mario Freitas

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Mark Robertson Nov 10, 2022:
Gift / Donation A donation is a type of gift, which is defined in Blacks Law Dictionary as:

A gift, especially to charity; something, especially money, that someone gives to a person or an organization, by way of help.

It is not clear from the context whether the gift to the Junta was in cash or kind. Likewise, the gift made could be made in life, or by will.

A doação of cash in life to a body like a Junta is probably best translated as a donation, but a doação in kind in life, or, in cash or kind, by will, is probably best translated as a gift.

Gift

Doação is a legal term, which is defined in the Portuguese Civil Code as:

Contrato pelo qual uma pessoa, por espírito de liberalidade e à custa do seu património dispõe gratuitamente de uma coisa ou direito ou assume uma obrigação em benefício de outra, que aceita.

The equivalent English language legal term is gift, which is defined in Blacks Law Dictionary as "the voluntary transfer of property to another without compensation".
