Russian to English Science Geology

Doctor Wellington B. Stone is a senior magnetometrist, a trained individual that is tasked specifically to analyze and study magnetic fields, mainly of planetary bodies and how they affect the local environment. In the event that a planet does not possess a magnetic field, scientists like Stone deduce why this is the case. He is a senior research specialist aboard the UNSC Currie, a Frontier Corps vessel.

Discussion

Rachel Douglas Feb 4, 2017:
@Kimberly I think the "aero" part refers to where the survey or mapping is done from, and does not limit the object of the survey to atmospheric layers or above.
5555555 (X) Feb 3, 2017:
I think this term tries to delineate between geomagnetism (study of the magnetic field of the Earth layers) and the atmospheric magnetic disturbances. In this case it is the study of atmospheric magnetism. I proposed "aeromagnetologist" as a specialist who studies the atmospheric magnetic behavior rather than just measuring and recording it.

May be an alternative: "Specialist in atmospheric magnetism"? It's long but more safe.
Cornelius Gillen Feb 3, 2017:
aeromagnetic surveyor or aeromagnetic survey specialist; i have never come across the term areomagnetologist in English papers. The extract mentions aerial surveys.
Ellen Kraus Feb 3, 2017:
in addition to the link posted by Kimberley could not trace any other link containing the term areomagnetologist. All I´ve come across were several Russian links referring to USSR high latitude air expeditions (South and North pole). These were about the only ones in which the word "Air" cropped up.

aeromagnetic surveyors

The "aero" part (in both languages), I believe is related to where they do the surveying and measurement from, rather than where than indicating that the surveyed phenomena are limited to the atmosphere and above.

Now I see that congillen suggested "aeromagnetic surveyor" in the Discussion fields, but didn't post it as an answer. Sorry.

Aeromagnetologist

Developing mineral resources prediction on GIS not only has great practical significance for promoting the applied process of GIS in mineral prediction, but also contributes to the comprehensive study of information on geology, tectonics, mineral resources, geophysics, geochemistry, aeromagnetology, and remote sensing etc.

I think you can also use "magnetologist" without "aero" because magnetology is the study of geomagnetic field of the Earth or the atmospheric geomagnetism. Aero would be implied.

a geomagnetist /geologists specializing in the study of geo-magnetism

In view of the fact that there are more sorts of magnetism <(healing magnetism), it is essential for the avoidance of misinterpretations, not to use the word magnetologist alone, but to add a syllable or a word like physicist (a physicist-magnetologist or a geomagnetist) .
Peer comment(s):

neutral Cornelius Gillen : I think there is a difference between a geophysicist doing research into the Earth's magnetism and someone carrying out an aerial survey using magnetic methods

neutral Rachel Douglas : I don't think you can omit "aero", since the original is talking about mapping done from the air.

Experts in aeromagnetic survey

".... ..extensive aeromagnetic survey allowed to cover.....
