Я бы не стала Великую Отечественную переводить как Great Partiotic War, так как англоговорящий мир вряд ли поймет, о чем речь. ИМХО

agree Mark Berelekhis : Can also be 'time' or 'period,' but 'era' works best here, IMO.

World War II time period

Era ИМХО прменимо для более продолжительных периодов, например Soviet era
Если контекст патриотический, WWII можно заменить на Great Patriotic War
