Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Cooking / Culinary Pressue cookers
In a manual from Spain for translation to British English. Part of a pressure cooker, incorporated into the lid. A curved bar running across the top that hooks into "orejones" on the body of the pressure cooker and is then pulled upwards by turning a knob to spring load the bar and hold the lid firm against the body. I'd go with "clamp bar", not "stirrup" As seen scrolling down a bit at this link, each end of the bar covering the lid fits into the "estribos" or "stirrups" on the side. So if the "ballesta" has to drop to the lowest possible position, it would be that bar, and not the stirrups on the side that would be the "balllesta", IMO. As an instruction, it might not be clear Yes, it is a lid lock, a locking mechanism. But if this is a user manual, it is not clear enough. I would prefer "clamp bar" which is descriptive.

Hola Hernán They use that expression in their translations for the UK market (probably the US audience also), but I am unable to judge if "clamp bar" is widely used in Britain. Pay attention to the proposal posted by Fiona.

Clamp bar??? Well, they call it "clamp bar", they, the famous Spanish pressure cooker producer (MXXXXXXX). but my feeling is that British pressure cookers differ from the Spanish versions. While in Britain, I never managed to see pressure cookers like those my mother has (truth is also I paid more attention to other things, not precisely to cooking devices). Another difference between both countries :-)

I've seen the locking mechanism described as a 'lid system' , 'turn-to-lock handle' or 'device for locking a lid' (that would be too cumbersome a description though)
