http://www.rwood.com/Recipes/Congee.htm - Congee (Rice Porridge)
Here's a recipe that's excellent for just about whatever ails you. Rice porridge, congee, jook . . . all of these are names for a long-simmered soup that is a perennial Asian dish. Gruel is a more apt translation, but please don't let that put you off! If soup sounds more appetizing, use more liquid and call it soup.

Having lived in São Paulo for over 21 years (largest japanese population outside Japan) and a vegetarian for many years (I currently also eat fish), I've tried dozens of different types of rice looking for the ideal one to make my favorite recipe: "arroz con leche". ;-)

This last reference is for rice porridge...& there are many many references! Then, it's definitely "congee" or rice porridge. Sorry if I was mislead, but since your question was posted in English it seems we all assumed it must be Eng>Spa.
Google congee and see what you get. Ex:

Note from asker:
thanks for your reply, Irina... I am actually trying to translate from Spanish to English here - the term in Spanish is a type of rice that they call "porridge" - do you think that rice porridge is the right English translation? I have never heard of it!)? Thanks for your help! |

: http://www.recipetips.com/glossary-term/t--38283/porridge-ri... - tho' I wouldn't use this term for the UK, but probably"glutinous rice", which is used for congees, etc.
