Spanish term

deplacamiento

Spanish to English Science Geology
Dear translators, I hope you can help me. I am having real trouble with this word. I wasn't sure it existed at first, thought it could be a typo, so I asked the person who commissioned the translation, who has explained it thus:

"Deplacamiento es una alteración de las rocas cuando hay
separación de la materia de forma paralela a la superficie (como placas) no siempre hay desplazamiento o pérdida; las exfoliaciones también corresponden a este tipo de pérdidas pero son más finitas como escamas.

Here is the context in the actual translation:

Rupturas y disyunciones del soporte pétreo: fracturas, grietas, fisuras, deplacamientos, exfoliaciones.

sheeting

From geology lectures:

Sheeting and exfoliation
When subsurface confining stress is released fast, and the rock exposed to the surface, if the rock has large residual stress, it will be broken into blocks. The fracture in vertical direction form exfoliation. If the fracture is in horizontal direction, it calls sheeting.

Another type of jointing develops when cracks form parallel to the topographic surface, called “sheeting”. These types of joints result when uplift and erosion removes the confining pressure of the overlying rock layers. As a result the rocks rebound and tend to break into slab-like layers.
