¿Sabrán que significa Acs.?

I agree, Muriel, and I have just added the third vote.
If I may say so, "rectificar es de sabios"... and pardon me for butting in here, but I was confused myself and wanted to get this straight. Jason is right, the nomenclature is a mess (but realistically there's no chance of getting it changed!). To my mind, the solution would be to stop calling measles rubeola. After all, even those who don't know Spanish can easily confuse rubeola with rubella in English, and to my knowledge Spanish doesn't have another name for rubella (except the phony calque "sarampión alemán"). "Rubeola" is a Latinate coinage from the seventeenth century; "measles" is much older, from Middle English, and seems to me perfectly adequate. But doctos like their Latinate terms.

A comment Regardless of who has the most technically "correct" entry, I have stated before, and will reiterate, that using the big red "Disagree" button to "cancel" our peers' entries, while at the same time promoting our own post, doesn't just seem unethical, but verges on a 'competitive spirit', which, I believe - has no place on Kudoz: I may be mistaken, but I think that the asker has the right to choose the best entry suggested without trying to eliminate the "competition":
INW: we're supposed to be here help someone find the translation that he or she finds most adecuate, not to convince him or her by using the "big RED" unfairly.

Jason and Muriel As I have always understood it, "rubeola" (or "rubéola") in Spanish is the disease known as rubella or German measles in English, caused by a Togavirus and well known for its propensity to damage the foetus during the early stages of pregnancy (síndrome de la rubéola congénita/congenital rubella syndrome). In English, on the other hand, "rubeola" is another name for measles (sarampión), a quite different disease caused by a Paramoxivirus.
The confusion in this area arises, therefore, from the fact that the word "rubeola" denotes different disease in English and Spanish: a classic "false friend".
If this is the case, "rubeola" in this Spanish source text refers to rubella, not measles.
If it is not the case, I would be very grateful to know!

This test detects IgG antibodies to rubella in blood. I think that the extra "anti" is redundant.

Thanks, Charles, I see I arrived late in this interesting discussion. I clearly remember being tested for rubella antibodies (rubeola here in Spain) in a pre-pregnancy health check.

Measles antibody

Rubeola is the measles virus, not to be confused with rubella which is the German measles virus. Also, you don't need the "anti" prefix in English as it is redundant.

Did it again. I've been getting this one mixed up since medical school. Rubéola in Spanish is indeed Rubella in English. I really wish the powers that be would get together and change this nomenclature.
