Vale, vero13842, tienes un buen sentido de humor y el contestador merece los puntos por su confianza en el glosario de proz.com
David Brown Oct 18, 2006:
I believe all references to "ground rounds" on Google are errors or the name of a fast food chain in the US. They are "grand rounds", another case of perpetuating errors!
liz askew Oct 17, 2006:
Interesting, have just found "ground rounds" on a UK site. New vocab. for me!
liz askew Oct 17, 2006:
I thought this question had been asked before on proz. and Roxanna Delgado answered this - medical conferences or similar?

neutral liz askew : never heard of it on this side of the Atlantic!

disagree Dr. Jason Faulkner : A mistranslation that has grown like a virus on the internet. Definitely not ground. Ground round is hamburger meat.

disagree Irina Dicovsky - MD (X) : Los ateneos médicos son reuniones clínicas donde se discuten los casos, no asociaciones médicas.

agree Roxanna Delgado : That's how I know them./Sounds good to me, and very true.Regarding the question, your links say "Annual grand rounds" which match the "anual" part of the question. So I think this is the one in this context.

Thank you, Roxanna, it's knowledge that counts® (maybe I should use that as my catchline)
disagree Dr. Jason Faulkner : Grand rounds (pase de visita in Spanish) involves the medical staff going from room to room reviewing each patient. A different concept.

I know that "teaching ward rounds" are sometimes called "grand rounds" but in this translation question, it is Grand Round

Medical/Clinical Case Studies

This is a weekly, or biweekly event (sadly, sometimes even less frequent) where physicians meet in a classroom/auditorium and discuss a particular case in excruciating detail. This differs from Grand Rounds, where the physicians round on all (or most) patients and the cases are discussed briefly, with special attention paid to the intersting cases.

To put it in a nutshell, grand rounds are a sort of inventory of all the patients that are hospitalized. The patients are still right there in the bed and under treatment. Case studies are of a single case, almost exclusively once the patient has long been discharged, sometimes from a completely different hospital. This allows 20/20 hindsight so that the different treatment decisions can be critiqued. It's more of a classroom type exercise.

Ateneos Medicos can also refer to professional associations, specialist boards, (American College of Surgeons, for example), etc., though it's not very common in modern use.
