היום תכנית זו מבוססת היטב, ופועלת בעזרת מבחר אירועים חינוכיים כגון: הקרנת סרטים המלווים בדיונים, תערוכות והכשרת מורים. בנוסף, התכנית עובדת עם מומחים בנושא לימודי השואה בכדי להכין ערכות לימוד וכלים פדגוגיים, כולל סדרת מאמרים אקדמיים לסטודנטים באוניברסיטאות.
התכנית גם מתאמת את תכני יום הזיכרון הבין-לאומי להנצחת קורבנות השואה ב-27 לינואר. ב-2013 עמד היום בסימן"הצלה בזמן השואה - האומץ לעזור״. בשנים עברו נבחרו נושאים כגון"נשים בשואה" ו״ילדים והשואה". התכנית פועלת גם להבטיח שאנשים צעירים ילמדו לעמוד מול רודנות ולהגן על זכויות וכבוד האדם.

Memory is a great strength, but it always requires reaffirmation and renewal, so that future generations will respect and learn the universal lessons of the Holocaust. For this purpose, the program The Holocaust and the United Nations was created. During its eight years in operation, the program carried triple purposes and effects: First, to remember, honor, and educate to prevent new dangers, and to situate this cause in the heart of the United Nations.
A decade ago, at the mark of the 60th liberation of the concentration and death camps, the international community team decided there was a need to do more to educate people about the Holocaust in order to prevent genocide. In November 2005, the UN resolution called for the UN Secretary to establish the outreach program for teaching the Holocaust. Two years later the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution stressing the commitment of its member states to the Holocaust program that rejects any attempt for Holocaust denial.
Today, this program is well established, and is working with an assortment of educational events such as film following discussions, exhibitions, and teachers training. In addition, the program works with experts in Holocaust education to prepare educational kits and pedagogical tools, including a series of academic papers for university students.
The program also coordinates the content of the international Holocaust Remembrance Day - on January 27. The theme of the 2013 event was "The act of rescuing during the Holocaust - courage to help.” The themes of previous years were The Holocaust and Children, Women in the Holocaust, etc. The program also works to ensure that young people will learn to stand up to tyranny and protect rights and dignity.
One of the first things we did was to allow the teaching of Holocaust remembrance worldwide through the support of projects of information centers of the UN. With experts and partners like the Yad Vashem, the center for memorial of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust, and others, four one-week training programs were prepared, for team members at information centers working with teachers and local authorities in their countries. Since the project has started, the number and volume of activity has increased each year.
During 2013, more than 130 such training programs were held in 41 countries, with materials and training provided by the program.
The program operates in countries such as the Dominican Republic, the Republic of Congo, Israel, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, Rwanda, Sweden, the USA and the UK. All together, approximately 133 events will be held this year to commemorate the Holocaust: 66 in Europe, 32 in Africa, 22 in America and 13 in Asia Pacific.
Another highlight is the annual professional program for educators. This year, the program invited teachers and student teachers to participate in an event called "Holocaust Education - Tools and Techniques." It included presentations of the Department of Visual History and Education at the University of Southern California Holocaust, Anne Frank House, Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum of the United States, and the Anti-Defamation League.
