My name is Lara van der Zee. I have a passion for languages and I love to use this passion to translate from English and German into my native language Dutch. Through repetitive stays in English and German speaking countries and family relations, I have acquired near-native proficiency in both languages.

I translate webshops (clothing, textiles, jewelry), product descriptions and manuals (household appliances, real estate, food packaging), but most of all I love translating books. All kind of crafts, cooking, baking, history, religion, whatever interests you.

I love to work on texts in my specialist fields: religion, education and arts & crafts. I have studied Theology and worked for several years at the Radboud University of Nijmegen as a teacher of Biblical Studies and Biblical Hebrew. Obviously this means that I am thoroughly familiar with Christian terminology. Recently I have also translated some Christian short stories and novels, which I enjoyed very much.

In my spare time, I am a dedicated crafter. I love working with all kinds of fibers (knitting, crochet, spinning, sewing). If you'd like to see what I make, you can find me on Ravelry as knittingIma. I have translated several books on knitting, crochet, felting and quilting. I also work for indy designers who like to offer their patterns in Dutch.

I have a keen eye for detail and nuance. Language involves more than just idiom and grammatical structures: a language is the key to the culture of its speakers. Attention to the cultural nuances reflected in language is what keeps me interested in translating.
