I am an avid dictionary collector and the editor of Webster's Online Dictionary - the Rosetta Edition. The project started with Webster's 1913 unabridged dictionary and grew from there, adding more modern definitions, translations, and additional information. The dictionary was created as a response to the unpleasant trend of other dictionaries charging subscriptions fees as a prerequisite for information on technical words (e.g. medical words) or translations -- something certain dictionary collectors find unacceptable. The Rosetta Edition dictionary specializes in providing as many translations as possible to support the multilingual community of professional translators and others without charging fees. Funds for the site come from academic sources and affiliations with external sites.
On an ad hoc basis, the project will get involved in translation, provided that the work can be used to improve the quality of the dictionary. At present, we are most interested in work on translations of West African languages spoken in Ghana, Benin, Togo and Niger.
