I'm French, and first I've been studying and then working in Spain, for 12 years in totoal.
Then I took my laptop and spent 9 months in Iceland, and now in Spain again, which is my home now...at least for the moment.

Maybe strange for a Dutch (Flemish)-speaking Belgian, but I've studied 5 months in the Netherlands. I wanted to know and experience how the Dutch students and scientists handled their own mothertongue, and it was a bit different then in Belgium. I learned the basics of Frisian as well, but that is more then 10 years ago.

I spent a year as an Erasmus student in Belgium (KULeuven) during the third year of my Polish MA and finished a year long MA in the UK (Warwick) during the fifth year of my Polish studies. I was born in France and grew up there, I came back to Portugal at the age of 15. During college, I studied in Germany during 9 months with Erasmus and did a 6 months traineeship also in Germany. Last year, I worked 6 months in Brussels but came back to Portugal where I decided to become freelancer... These were really very enriching experiences as one's learns to see the positive and negative aspects of each country, and so much more!!

I'm currently living in a country that is not my native country. I'm French and I have been living in Ireland since 2001. Previously, I studied for 6 months in London when I was younger.

I was born in France and lived there for 18 years. Once I got my Baccalauréat I moved to Salamanca (Spain) to University where I took a degree in English Language and Literature. I was an Erasmus student in Swansea (Wales) for a year and then worked as a Foreign Language Assistant in Plymouth (UK) for two years.
Right now I live in Spain.

When I moved to Spain, I was 19, now I'm 54, during that period I have worked in many countries: Irak, Indonesia, China, Japan ...

No, I work from home and practically do no travelling at all, 'I've done my stint' so-to-say.

Nigel.

I studied French in Brussles for 6 months when I was 18 and then went to Madrid for a 3 month course of Spanish. Then for my translation studies i worked in the south of France for 6 months. Funnily enough, my two main translation languages now are English and German, and I never lived in any countries where those languages are spoken. Go figure!;)
I guess it isn't strange that a majority of translators and interpretors have lived in other countries. It is very usefull, if not nescessary,

I am Uruguayan, and I lived and studied two years in Canada, when I was 17 years old.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to be able to live half a year somewhere else (of one's choice, of course) and the other half at home. And I would choose Scotland or Ireland.

Dreams...

Then I decided I would try living in the US again, but after a year here I realized that it was not going to work out. I couldn't adjust to living in the USA again after living for so long in Brazil. I missed the people, the culture, the climate and especially not being able to speak Portuguese every day. So, the result is that I'm going back to Rio on Nov. 18!

I also spent some time in Mexico when my father was living there, in the late 60s just before I went to Brazil for the first time.
