I love my job, I love the freedom that comes with freelancing and it allows me to generate an income that I probably wouldn't be able to generate in employement. Right now I have no reason whatsoever to even consider to leave the industry partially, let alone completely.
Being the last one to leave a sinking ship!

As our Spanish friends say - nada. I didn’t stay. Although I sometimes interact with the community here.
I also find it weird to keep seeing “translation” references here, while it’s only editing and postediting industry now. What translation?
Just as the anarchists used to graffiti the walls after the so-called Carnation Revolution, ‘The last one out, turn off the airport lights’, I intend to stay until the very end (in Lieven’s company?), because I’m too old to change careers now…

I'm retired. I quit translation as a 'profesion', as a money-earner, many years ago.
I still spend a lot of time translating stuff - but entirely for my own purposes: dealing with public administrations in half-a-dozen different countries on matters relating to pensions, legal matters, etc., as well as in connection with some of my retirement projects. I still spend a lot of time translating stuff - but entirely for my own purposes: dealing with public administrations in half-a-dozen different countries on matters relating to pensions, legal matters, etc., as well as in connection with some of my retirement projects. One of these is the development of a multi-lingual website focused on the families of European settlers who came to this part of Chile in the late 19th century and the land concessions granted to them by the Chilean government of that time.

Turning the question on its head: what induced Henry to leave the translation profession?
The few clients I have left pay me four times what I get paid in my new job, so I’m sticking around for that.
And yes that’s real translation, Lingua 5B. There are still people who want it.

Where is AI when you need it ... to inject a dose of optimism with some 'the future is bright' pearls of wisdom?
Is it possible that a Thing with such humongous giga-memrory has run dry on PR BS? Or is suddenly short of avatars?
As for 'staying in the translation profession' - again, all depends on your 'definition of terms':

As for 'staying in the translation profession' - again, all depends on your 'definition of terms':
-- 'the translation profession' where '... profession = your only source of income' - that one is long gone - when the plane started losing altitude I bailed out without waiting for the nosedive phase of the 'meeting with the future'. For that a parachute (in the form of 'spare' professions) was very handy, OTOH
-- 'the translation profession' where '... profession = your vocation' - you don't quit on that. ▲ Collapse
