Do and don't Apr 20

I usually don't know that the instructions are unclear until after I've accepted the job and try to get started with it. Tight deadlines don't bother me. Low rates are only a deal-breaker if I can't squeeze a profit out of it. I do do PEMT but I don't do MT/AI evaluation (besides, MT/AI evaluation typically doesn't pay enough -- but I suppose I would do MT/AI evaluation if the rate is really, really good, e.g. the upper limit of my hourly rate, paid per actual hour).

AI annotation Apr 20

I agree on rates with my customers before entering a business relationship, so low rates are never an issue. Bottom-feeders are simply ignored.

In general there are no translation/MTPE/editing/proofreading projects I avoid. In most cases I don't even bother to look at what I'm supposed to translate before I accept the request. I consider everything out of the ordinary to be a challenge towards a new specialization or an improvement of my translation/MTPE skills.

I don't have to avoid AI annotation projects because my established customers never offer it to me, but if they would I would decline. I'm only interested in translation/(post-)editing/proofreading.

I don't accept certain subjects such as medical stuff or any stuff I don't feel comfortable with for that matter or if I don't like the agency's conditions, NDAs or rates or BB entries even though sometimes they don't mean much. I don't know about the formats before I've translated a bit unfortunately though and in that case, I'll mention that I'll be charging extra for them. I like to know that I'll deliver a job in time and when I've had time to proofread it though and I prefer to steer clear of certain topics I feel strongly about too. And I certainly won't help to train AI either.

Assignments that are outside my core linguistic work... and... Apr 20

... I’d rather say I know what I DON'T avoid 😄
I’m always open to translation, subtitling, transcreation, terminology, and MTPE.
I’ve also recently completed a subtitling training, a refreshing update on something I already have experience in 🙂!
