I receive a pension for the 20 years I worked as staff translator at an EU Institution (has been increasing over the years) + my income from freelancing (has been decreasing over the years), but I'm not complaining as I'm at the end of my career...
Eight years ago, when I first received my pension, it was less than a quarter of what I was earning through translation. Now it's about double, which means that translation brings in less than an eighth of what it used to. That says a lot about the market.
My main income is certainly language teaching, translating and content creating, but I would like to invest on something else to not only depend on language services. I hope that this could help me when my income for language services is very low or scarce.

Yes, but I also teach jewellery design and make my own jewellery pieces for sale.
Translation has always been my main source of income, and I intend to keep focusing on what I do best. | | | | Thayenga גרמניה Local time: 13:17 חבר (2009) מאנגלית לגרמנית + ...
After decades of having been my only source of income it has now become more like the cherry on the cake, a nice little extra income. | | | | Lieven Malaise בלגיה Local time: 13:17 חבר (2020) מצרפתית להולנדית + ...
Translation has been my only source of income since 2005. At this moment there is still no indication that the end is near, apart from AI big shots announcing the Great AI Replacement within less than 2 years.

in fact decades.
Very luckily not now. | | | |
My OnlyFans has really taken off. It’s amazing how many people will pay to see me translating dressed as a French maid. Suck on that, AI! | | | | Cecília Alves ארגנטינה Local time: 08:17 חבר (2011) מאנגלית לפורטוגזית + ... | Yes, main and only, unfortunately | May 19 |
It's been sucessfully my only source of income, but the very irregular flow of job offerings for about a year or two now has been worrying me more each day. I changed career paths a couple of times in the past (for different reasons), so I feel uneasy when I think of having to change it again. And being close to turn 47 does not help either... | | | | | Age is just a bias | May 20 |

Age is just a biased perception and shouldn't matter at all if your work is superb.
I spent the last 15 years studying for my translation degree while working on several other things related and not related to languages. So I didn't earn much in terms of money, but I earned and learned a lot in terms of skills, experience, and knowledge that help me perform superbly at my job.
Change has been my companion throughout my entire adulthood. All sorts of changes in family and friend relationships, in work, in studies, in my country's political and economic challenges, in everything! So yeah, of course I'm not 30 anymore! THANKFULLY!!
If age is the only parameter a recruiter is going to consider, then that recruiter hasn't lived enough to learn and earn the core of life, and it isn't worth working for such a biased fool, IMHO.
Regarding the poll, NO, I don't work as a translator; I'm currently working as an AI post-editor (MTPE) among many other things not related to languages—those are my main income—because that's the only constant offering available now. That's another change in an era where the only permanent things are changes.
