English and Chinese are both very colorful languages full of various figurative expressions. Figurative usage is intended to achieve rhetorical effect and frequently occurs in literary works and daily speech. On the other hand, the two languages have a lot of differences in lexical and syntactic aspects and in cultural sense. Whether a figurative expression is appropriately transferred or not greatly affects the force and readability of a translation. Therefore it is very essential for us to give an intensive study into the translation of figurative expressions from English into Chinese.
