多年的翻译经验让我感觉到，无论是理解和翻译词语、还是句子，都要注意到它们不是孤立的，而是根植于一定的文化背景中的。忽略这一点，就可能犯错误。

这问题还挺微妙的。不是文化本身对翻译的意义，而是译者对文化的理解对翻译的意义。

我觉得值得考虑的一个方面是代表性：译者在阅读文本时会做一些判断，这个文本是不是代表其背景文化？比如说，我现在手上的工作是一本文化评论著作，这本书有意识地代表了中国文化。但是有的散文、诗歌、小说等，虽然它处于中国文化中，但它并没有刻意代表中国文化，比如说情歌代表的是爱情，对情歌来说，文化只是载体而不是信息。

但是呢，话说回来，假如要把中国的情歌翻译成英文，虽然说文化原来只是这首歌的副作用，但你把其中所有文化产物都删除掉或用英美文化概念来代替的话，那诗意就在哪里呢？这就是读者群体的不同出发点：中国读者把诗当诗看，英美读者很可能把诗当中国文化产物看。而译者站在其中，不断地做取舍：这个文化点太有意思，一定要保留。。。这点则得改，到诗情高潮时，不能允许异国文化来分散读者注意力。。。等等。

这不仅是文学中才出现的问题，国际关系更是如此，比如说中国政府的一篇文章，其性质可能有一半是技术、法律类的，一半属于自我代表。

我是一个目的论者。

文化差异无处不在，而在翻译过程中，是否需要反映/展现这种文化差异，取决于翻译的目的，并非单纯的“取”或者“舍”，在这中间，需要根据受众、作者以及原文文本不断权衡。

在文学翻译中，我读过同样的中文作品，中国人翻译和外国人翻译的不同文本。总体而言，中国人的文本更“忠实”于原文，而外国人翻译的文本则更“写意”一些。这或许就是译者不同的文化背景和立场所导致的差异。

在商业翻译中，这种目的性更加明显。“文化”是否准确毫无保留地传达到译文，取决于商业公司的目的。“可口可乐”就非常接地气，而“麦当劳”则是纯粹的音译，这两种译法的优劣？还真说不出来。有时候商业翻译的效果，还不是单纯的翻译的事，而是整个商业策划的一部分，没法独立开来看。

说了一大圈，后来差点把自己绕进去了~呵呵
