Deshojar literally is 'to strip the leaves off', which would be OK for corn cobs but maizales are cornfields so I can only surmise that the idea here is to get rid of the weeds (although I don't see many weeds in corn/maize fields here). Are u sure maizal here isn't maíz? Here on the farm after harvesting we used to do this (strip the leaves off individual cobs).
