In economic practice, acclimatization is caused by the artificial resettlement of useful wild or agricultural animals. Experiments on acclimatization of wild mammals in various countries have been carried out on 160 species. There are now 32 species of mammals resettled in the USSR, and acclimatized mammals account for over 10 percent of fur production. Muskrat acclimatization has been particularly profitable, with the range of muskrat in the USSR now exceeding the area it occupied in its native USA and in Canada.

В хозяйственной практике А. связана с искусственным расселением полезных диких или с.-х. животных. Опыты по А. диких млекопитающих в разных странах проведены на 160 видах. Сейчас в СССР расселено 32 вида млекопитающих, а удельный вес акклиматизированных видов в заготовках пушнины превышает 10%. Особенно большой экономический эффект дала А. ондатры, ареал которой в СССР превышает площадь, занятую ею на родине - в США и Канаде.

точнее будет "artificial resettlement of fur(-bearing) animal species"

i guess that is what is meant here: the animals were re-introduced into the areas of their natural habitation

мне кажется, что resettlement в принципе правильно, но в конкретном случае рассления пушных животных производилось именно восстановление популяций в районах их бывшего обитания.

As the ability for humans to traverse the globe has increased with technological innovations over the last one hundred years, the potential for non-native animals to be carried around the globe has also increased enormously.
