Mobile NFC technology
Mobile services are changing the way that billions of people around the world live, work and socialise and we are seeing a steady evolution towards a fully digital life," said XXX, chief marketing officer, YYY. "At the YYY Summit 2012 we will see and uniquely this year, experience, mobile NFC providing a critical link between our digital life on our smartphone and the connected world around us, ***as it carries*** our wallet, identity, keys, music, books, photos, tickets, loyalty cards, mail, itinerary and much more".
What does the "it" mean? our digital life? the connected world around us? the critical link? mobile NFC? What is the sense of the sentence?

I can't agree with smartphone as the answer, because phones are just pieces of metal and plastic without their functionality. In this case, it's the fact that the phone is equipped with Mobile NFC that makes it so useful.

Only with this latest technology are we capable of paying for things directly with our smartphones (the wallet reference); of scanning our fingerprints, eye etc (identity); of transmitting signals to operate switches (keys)...
I've got a smartphone but I can't do any of those things.

the smartphone
mi interpretación es que es el teléfono mismo el que contiene toda esa información (en sentido figurado, obviamente).
good luck!
